Artist of the Month
Flora Saldivar
Flora Saldivar is a Mexican American abstract painter whose work is a vibrant exploration of color, movement, and texture. Currently residing in the American Ozarks, her intuitive process balances a "happened quality" with deliberate composition, capturing emotions and impressions in large-scale works on raw canvas.
Saldivar’s practice is driven by her enthusiasm for developing new techniques. Such as the Verso-Infundo method, which utilizes both sides of the canvas to achieve remarkable depth, creating what she calls her “ghost layers.” In her Fayetteville studio, she develops custom gouache blends for her unique soak stain technique, a method that delivers fluid application and vibrant pigments without compromising the raw canvas.
Saldivar’s work is a direct translation of her cultural heritage, stemming from a childhood in Mexico City. Her pieces are part of permanent collections at OZ Art NWA, The Walton Arts Center, Sterling Bank, Blakeman's, and many other collections worldwide, she was also recognized as "Artist on the Rise" by Artsy.
